Job Description

We are now seeking for a MEDICAL UNDERWRITING SUPERVISOR

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You will be responsible for making decision on underwriting. You are expected to utilize knowledge in underwriting along with logical and analytical thinking, to ensure that the applications for enrollment and/or policy changes for individual health schemes are compliant to guidelines and underwritten in a consistent and accurate manner
  • This person will also be responsible for people management and process management of the team, and accountable for the delivery of quality service of the team, and ensuring the team members at all times conducting themselves in a professional manner
  • The purpose of the job is to ensure medical risks entering our risk pools are underwritten according to the guidelines and business rules, of the client delivering quality outcome, including underwriting decisions and customer services
  • Assist Manager to lead a team of underwriters and manage resources to ensure that the team can meet agreed KPIs and quality standards in continuously changing environment
  • Perform underwriting assessment on application for memberships and policy changes according to the rules and guidelines within agreed turnaround times
  • Perform reviews on complex cases from all sales channels escalated by subordinates; prepare summary of reviews and discuss with manager to formulate solutions
  • Assist manager in setting SOPs; develop, review and conduct audit programs/processes, escalation hierarchy, issues/risk analysis and mitigation parameters
  • Assist manager to review and streamline internal processes and synchronise them with up and downstream processes for seamless end-to-end service delivery
  • Prepare regular and adhoc reports and interpret figures to understand any specific issues, monitor and analyze trends
  • Deliver trainings to underwriters to build up their knowledge and confidence in complex case handling, and assist manager to set up a knowledge base and conduct regular update
  • Participate actively and contributes fully as project team member; complete the assigned tasks and deliver planned outcomes as scheduled
  • Assist in the implementation of new measures to upgrade operational efficiency
  • Perform tele-underwriting with external customers, handles and responds to enquiries from internal customers

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 5 years of experience in medical underwriting, with at least 2 years in supervisory role or above; or at least 7 years of experience in life underwriting and claim, with 2 years in supervisory role of above, with sound knowledge on common medical conditions and medical insurance products and operations will be considered
  • Experience in process management and transformation will be an advantage
  • Excellent problem solving skill and logical thinking; ability to identify source of data and analyse data to construct a case with reasonable recommendations and decisions, supported by sound justifications
  • Strong desire to develop a career in medical underwriting
  • Strong sense of compliance, ethics and integrity; hold self accountable for own decisions and actions
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; open to new ideas and suggestions
  • Willing and able to work under pressure with positive working attitude
  • Attentive to details and willing to learn
  • Customer-focused
  • Good written English and Chinese; proficient in English and Cantonese
  • Good PC skills with good knowledge of Microsoft Office and Chinese word processing
